Cal Poly microbiology major and former NCAA athlete Megan Melnyk has developed a magazine that focuses on women in STEM fields called Revel. Megan loves being educated in her own field, yet felt a disconnect to other areas of STEM. She sought a solution that covers all of these topics through a magazine that can both inform and inspire others. Her mission is to create a space in which, “women can feel encouraged and know that we have a place in the STEM fields, outside of the classroom and in our everyday lives.” The articles that she cultivates acknowledge the strides being made to abolish the gender gap while challenging the sexism that endures within the STEM industries.
Megan is currently applying to medical schools and volunteers at 40 Prado Homeless Services Center. Megan intends to translate her community leadership experiences into her future endeavors as a young professional who is trying to remedy inequalities and suppressed opportunities in STEM fields. Megan is a motivated, competent, young professional that will share her interests and knowledge with the women around her and beyond the extents of Cal Poly. Written by: Larissa Kurtz |
