Andrea LealAndrea is a project manager for a water distribution system being built in Nicaragua through Engineering Without Borders and is a voice for undocumented students at Cal Poly.
The thing I admire the most about Andrea is that she is very humble, despite all her accomplishments. She fiercely fights for the rights of undocumented students by asserting her presence on this campus through volunteering at the Dream Center, serving on a DOS Council on their behalf, and working on starting the Advancement for Undocumented Students (AUS) club. She is a member of the Society of Hispanic Professionals in Engineering (SHPE) and an officer of Engineers Without Borders Cal Poly (EWB). She will be the 2019-2021 Nicaragua Project Manager working on the implementation and monitoring of a water distribution system in the community La Rinconada. She was one of nine Cal Poly delegates participating in the 4th Annual UN forum for Science Technology and Innovation representing the Major Group for Children and Youth and providing her input on the implications of science policies on our generation!
Andrea has always been a good friend and an inspiration to me. No matter what she’s going through or how busy she is with class she always makes sure to set time aside to talk to me or anyone that may need advice. She has modeled what a successful womxn in STEM looks like. Written by: Ingrid Reyes |
