Sophia ShapiroSophia is starting her own company to talk about body positivity and healthy lifestyle choices, as well as the stigma behind eating disorders to encourage people to get the help they need.
For the majority women that have struggled with body image, eating disorders, and mental health, they shy away from talking about it or being open to others about what they’re going through. For sophomore business student Sophia Shapiro, she has leaned in to her journey by realizing her voice and story has the potential to impact girls everywhere that struggle with the same stresses and insecurities.
After overcoming an eating disorder in high school, Sophia first created @sweatwsoph, a fitness Instagram page, with the goal of purposely addressing realness, body positivity, and self-love to reduce the stigma behind eating disorders and encourage people to get the help they need. Sophia’s vulnerable posts and relevant content are a breath of fresh air in a society so focused on a ‘perfect’ image, and provide a community for others to feel more comfortable talking about their own food anxiety and body insecurities. Now, Sophia is launching her own company, SnackwSoph, where she will create healthy snack boxes for college-aged women to eat without feeling guilty or restricted. She plans to concentrate in Entrepreneurship and continue building SnackwSoph full-time after college to bring her story and resources to women everywhere. Sophia is a tireless advocate, dedicated entrepreneur, and inspiring role model for young women, and I cannot wait to see the continued impact she will have. Madison Gress, friend and peer mentor |
